For the Today You: 5 Ways to Reset Your Post-Pandemic Life

 BY SHANNEN LOI • JULY 11, 2022

Two years ago, our lives dramatically changed, with waking up to face the unknown and sleeping with worrying thoughts becoming a routine. Being in that state of uncertainty, telling ourselves that “I am not alone, everyone is in the same boat,” somehow got us through the most daunting days and nights.

The outgoing people especially, had a difficult time coping with the quarantine set-up, adjusting from their once productive daily lives starting their day by hitting the gym in the morning, going on road trips and watching the sun set by the windows, bar-hopping all night to get extreme hangovers the next day, and before they knew it, they were confined in the corners of their home, doing a full 180 – where those morning routines have become their regular bedtime, road trips have turned into lying down in whichever corner of the room they feel most at ease in, and being lonely as night comes.

    • What was once a rewarding moment for the homebodies eventually became a burden that weighed them down. Missed opportunities, a never-ending spiral of “what-ifs” and “should-have-dones”, all those fleeting intrusive thoughts of being robbed of their time each passing year.

But that was two years ago, and two years is actually a long time. Looking back to when we found ourselves wondering if we could still explore the world while we could, here we are today with airlines and country borders reopening, establishments re-operating, friends reuniting, and so on – there is now certainty that we can resume and, perhaps, reboot our lives. So, if you want to make up for those missed chances, with the world slowly transitioning to the post-pandemic life, here are five ways that can help you enjoy the here and live in the now.

1. Go on a beach vacation.
Everyone must have longed for the beach during the two years there were limits on outside activities. You’ll genuinely miss it when you’re not there—feeling the smooth sand between your toes, hearing the gentle lapping of the waves as they come and go, and feeling the sun’s heat on your skin as you lie down and take in the energy of the moment. It has always been almost everyone’s go-to place for some well-deserved rest, and it never fails to soothe the soul as if it has healing powers. And good news! Since last year, many beach destinations have reopened, allowing large groups of families or friends to spend the holidays or quick getaways together. Well, what’s a beach vacation if not for some fun drinking? We all did miss having fun over drinks with a breathtaking view of the beach. We can do that now by creating more amazing memories and trying some new experiences with BuzzBallz ready-to-drink cocktails, making beach getaways even more unforgettable.

2. Host that long-overdue party with family and friends.

Although technology has made it possible to still celebrate with our loved ones during the lockdowns, there is nothing like gathering with the special people in our lives at the same time and place. I’m sure you missed anticipating and greeting guests as they arrived one by one, having an on-the-spot singing battle or dance showdown with everyone, and all the priceless memories made by celebrating together at some point. With the restrictions on mass gatherings gradually being lifted, get your calendars and pockets ready and start planning that long-overdue gathering to make up for the quarantine birthdays and other milestones you’ve had to put the celebration on hold in the past two years, whether in the most spacious venue or even in your own backyard. To complete your party checklist? Add some Barokes canned wines to make your once-in-a-lifetime occasions extra special! It’s not really about the gifts anymore, what matters more now is the time spent together with some good drinks over. And oh! Make sure that all guests are fully vaccinated or do a rapid antigen test to be safe, you wouldn’t want to go through another quarantine season.

3. Try camping.

The global health crisis has indeed accelerated digital transformation, and so disconnecting from technology and reconnecting with nature as a way to recharge the brain is much needed. Aside from its physical health benefits, studies have shown that nature walkers and hikers experience less anxiety and rumination. For when you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, escape the madness of the world, and free your mind, go on an adventure by spending the night in a tent under the stars. With the ethereal landscapes, you can spend an evening in the mountains with a friend or two, with 1WINE to help you sleep soundly after the exhausting climb up to the top. Don’t forget to pack an alcohol or disinfectant spray for sanitary reasons; it’s better to carry one with you wherever you go.

4. Rent a homestay with your best friends.

Social interaction, particularly with people with whom you have a special connection, is a vital ingredient of happiness and well-being. Nowadays, renting spaces has become one of the must-try and bucket-list ideas in friendships. It’s similar to a sleepover at a friend’s house—except it’s just you and your friends, there’s no one to help you around, and you have to buy your own groceries and prepare your own meals from breakfast to dinner. But isn’t that awesome? You have the entire place for you to make a mess (but not to the extent of breaking things) and have the best time of your lives. From being in your own rooms to finally spending time together in one space, friends really make the good times even better. And if you need something to partner with your karaoke and pizza nights, Buzzballz cocktails are the answer. Maybe the accommodation also has a private pool, the ready-to-drink cocktails go well with a swim.

5. Take some time off for yourself.

Amidst the yearning for social interaction after two years of isolation, those years have also taught us to value our personal time and space. During that period, we found ourselves appreciating moments of quiet to internalize our feelings and engage in deeper creative thought. We need that solitude, to reflect on our progress or rediscover ourselves; it’s our soul-healing time. In those times when our minds wander, we are relieved that there is nothing else we need to do but be present in the moment. Embrace that solitude, wherever your feet take you. On the days you want to be by yourself, when the world starts to get overwhelming again, it’s just you, writing in your journal while listening to your favorite playlist. For that peaceful state of mind without the pressures of the world, sometimes having a wine in a bottle or a cocktail in a can all to yourself can be more rewarding.

Life remains unpredictable, so continue the pastimes or pursuits you want to get back to or it’s not yet too late to try out something new. Let us now move on from what we are no longer and prepare for what we will become, as our best moment is yet to come. So make your present worth remembering by living your best life again!
